Week 11: Diffusion of Innovation

Women have been fighting for equal pay, coverage, and  respect in sports for over a decade. Even now, the barriers have not been fully knocked down, although there have been some new exceptions made.
1896 was considered the start of modern ear of sports. Women were mostly excluded form sports, only allowing men to participate.

In 1928, women could participate in feminine sports, including track, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, and. Women realized that they had talents as well, and wanted to be represented like men were.

In 1952, women have been able to conquer some traditional power structures/challenges, and stereotypes. The Battle of the Sexes sparked a big victory for some, when Billie Jean King showed the world that men were able to be dethroned by women.

Currently, women are not receiving equal pay, while being sexualized, and not getting the coverage they deserve in compassion to men’s sports. The U.S Women's Soccer team have been champions four times, were watched 22% more than men in 2019.
